Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound of formula I (X is methyl or halogen; n is 1 or 2).
EXAMPLE: N-(o-Chloro-α-α-dimethylbenzyl)pivalic acid amide.
USE: Herbicide having strong activity even to the perennial weeds of Cyperaceae family, harmless to the crops such as rice plant, soybean, etc. and safe to vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, etc.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting pivalic acid or its reactive derivative with a benzylamine derivative of formula II pref. in benzene as a solvent.
