Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the fiber of easy identification and connection by disposing a plurality of preform rods parallelly so as to close contact with each other, providing a reference line composed of colored glass so as to make close contact with the two rods thereof, putting a pipe for jacket on the outside circumference of the rods and stretching the same with heating.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of preform rods 4 for fibers to form core and clad are disposed in close contact with each other and parallelly and a preform rod 5 being a reference line composed of colored glass or the like is provided so as to make close contact with the two mutually adjacent rods. After a pipe 6 for jacket is put on the outside circumference of the bundle of these preform rods, it is stretched with heating, whereby the multicore fiber having the jacket 2 formed in one body with the clads of the rods 4 and the pipe 6 for jacket may be manufactured. This yields the multicore fiber of easy identification and connection.
