Abstract
PURPOSE: To utilize heat produced by combustion of the sludge itself effectively, by drying and incinerating the sludge while floating the same along swirl in a swirl drying chamber.
CONSTITUTION: High-temperature exhaust gas issues at a high speed from openings 7 formed in the peripheral wall of the swirl drying chamber 2, so that swirl or exhaust gas is developed in the chamber 2. In chamber 2, small pieces of sludge is kept floated in the swirl flow and stays therein for a much longer time as compared with the case in which they drop directly into a chamber having no swirl of gas flow. Then, the small pieces of sludge are dropped into a fluidized bed section 8 in chamber 2 and residual water content is removed completely. Thereafter, dried sludge overflows into a fluidized incinerator 4 and is combusted therein. Here, a portion of high-temperature exhaust gas from the incinerator 4 is carried via a conduit 5 into drying chamber 2, while other portion of the exhaust gas is used for heating fluidizing medium in fluidized bed section 8 in chamber 2. Thus, it is enabled to utilize the heat produced by combustion of sludge itself effectively.
