Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high toughness intermetallic compound material mostly based on an L12-type intermetallic compound by pouring a molten alloy having a specified composition contg. Ni and/or Mn, Al, C, etc. onto the inside of a highly heat conductive rotary body.
CONSTITUTION: A molten alloy consisting of, (by wt.) 5W70% Ni and/or Mn, 4W12% Al, 0.2W2.6% C or 0.2W2.6% C and N2 (≥0.2% N2), and the balance Fe is poured onto the inside of a rotary body composed of highly heat conductive members, or it is directly poured into a liq. medium at room temp., giving a high toughness intermetallic compound material mostly based on an L12-type intermetallic compound in which most of the above-mentioned C or C and N2 have been dissolved. By adding a specified amount of at least one of Cr, Mo, W, etc., the strength of the material is further increased without deteriorating the toughness and ductility.
