Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize a compact structure for a parallel branching device of light, by forming a dielectric multilayer film on the slant edge surface of an incident optical fiber and then arraying the optical fibers having the same angles of inclination and multilayer films in parallel to the incident optical fiber so that a part of the incident rays is transmitted and the other part of the rays is reflected. CONSTITUTION:The rays of wavelengths lambda1 and lambda2 transmitted through an optical fiber 1 are divided by a dielectric multilayer film on an edge surface 2 having an angle of inclination theta. The ray of wavelength lambda1 transmits into an optical fiber 3 from an edge surface 4 having the same multilayer film to be transmitted. While the ray of wavelength lambda2 reflected on the surface 2 is reflected on an edge surface 6 of an optical fiber 5 having the same angle of inclination theta and the same multilayer film as the surface 2 of the fiber 1 and arrayed in parallel to the fiber 1 to be transmitted. In such a way, a parallel branching device of light is miniaturized.
