Abstract

PURPOSE:To make an analogue signal multilevel with a high precision and a small- sized device without requiring an electrically complicated computation, by providing a peak value signal generating means. CONSTITUTION:An analogue signal A of all white is inputted to a peak value signal voltage generating circuit 2, and a peak hold voltage B is generated as the output of the circuit 2. Next, an A/D converter 3 subjects the signal A, which is inputted again, to A/D conversion for all picture elements of one scanning line on a basis of the signal B successively. This converted digital signal C is stored in corresponding addresses of a storage means 4 successively. Next, in the multilevel processing operation, the analogue information signal A including picture information is inputted to a terminal 1. Synchronously with this input, the distortion characteristic digital signal stored in the address corresponding to each picture element position is read out from the means 4 and is inputted to a D/A converter 5. The voltage B is input to this converter 5, and the reference voltage D is outputted with the value of the voltage B as a maximum value. This voltage D is inputted to a comparing circuit 6 and is compared with the information signal A to output a binary information signal E.
