Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible the application of a constant charging quantity despite the change in environments such as humidity, by driving an electrode roller, which rolls on the surface of a chargeable member in contact therewith, by means of a constant current source. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed electrode roller 4 which is prevented from causing uneven charging and pinholding is driven by a constant current source 14, and the photoconductive layer 3 of a photosensitive drum 1 on which this roller 4 rolls in contact therewith is uniformly charged. Despite the change in environments such as humidity, the effective driving current of the roller 4 is made constant by this constant current driving, by which the occurrence of uneven charging is prevented and a constant charging quantity is applied to the drum 1.
