Abstract
PURPOSE: The captioned mold material of superior decay characteristic after casting which is obtainable by further coating thermoplastic resin on the surfaces of molding sand having been coated with thermosetting resin.
CONSTITUTION: Thermosetting resin such as phenolic resin is coated on the molding sand having been selected as core sand, after which further thermoplastic resin such as acrylic resin is coated thereon. If this coated sand is packed in the croe box of pattern cavity part, the thermosetting resin binds the sand particles along with heating to form the core of the specified shape and at the same time the thermoplastic resin melts, thereby interspersing and dispersing in the core. If this core is taken out from the core box and is built in a mold followed by pouring of molten metal, then the poured molten metal initially holds the strength of the core but as time elapses the thermoplastic resin decomposes and disappears and therefore cavities are formed. Hence, the residual strength of the core decreases after the casting and the core may be reading removed from the casting with light impact.
