Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an inner surface of a hood from depositing slag or the like and also from invasion of open air by a mechanism wherein a fixed hood and an intermediate hood which can be cooled by water are provided to a furnace opening seal of a converter and an intermediate hood and a furnace opening metal parts are contacted elastically. CONSTITUTION:In a furnace opening seal designated as a figure, a flange of metal contact sealing is provided in an projected manner to an under surface of an intermediate hood 2 to seal an interior of a converter primarily and, on the other hand, a gasket 16 is provided to an outer peripheral flange 15 of a furnace opening metal parts faced to a liftable hood 3 to seal recondarily. At his sealing position, to a ring like void formed between a hood 1 enclosed by a main bellows 4 and a hood 2 as well as a ring like void formed between a hood 2 enclosed by an auxiliary bellows, a sealing gas is introduced from an exhaust gas sump of a converter by arranged pipes 17, 18 and this gas is filled while the pressure of the said gas is raised above the furnace pressure to shield open air centainly. Because hoods 1 and 2 are cooled by water, slag or the like generated during refining are not deposited to an inner surface of a hood and the invasion of open air is certainly inhibited.
