Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an austenitic stainless steel which retains high strength and corrosion resistance at ordinary and high temp. even when the crystal grains are coarse, by decreasing carbon content of the steel, and by addn. of limited amount of N, Nb, and Mo.
CONSTITUTION: An austenitic stainless steel comprising, by weight, ≤0.03%C, ≤1.0%Si, ≤2%Mn, 17.0W19.0%Cr, 9.0W13.0%Ni, 0.2W1.0%Mo, 0.05W 0.15%N, 0.1W1.0%Nb, the balance being substantially Fe. Decrease in carbon content of the steel allows to secure the corrosion resistance, and addn. of N, Nb, Mo in limited amounts permits to prevent decrease in strength due to decreased carbon content. Hereby, the product made of the steel under conditions where crystal grains are unexpectable to become refined retains high strength and corrosion resistance at ordinary and high temp.
