Abstract

PURPOSE: To promote a prolongation of service life, by using a light permeable alumina ceramic or single crystal ceramic (sapphire), which may cause a less mutual action with cesium metal, for the tube unit of gas discharge lamp.
CONSTITUTION: A tube unit 4, made of light permeable alumina (Al2O3) ceramic base material of dome-shape, is closed by a cap 5 consisting of the same material as the tube unit 4 or opaque ceramic material. A metallic pipe 6, constructed by a non- magnetic material like niobium, tantalum, titanium, etc. with the heat expansion coefficient approximating to that of the tube unit 4, is penetrated through the cap 5 and linked to within the tube unit 4. The cap 5 and the metallic pipe 6 are jointed by an inorganic binding agent 7 of CaO-Al2O3 system, and an air-tightness condition is provided by processing a sealing of cesium metal and xenon gan in the tube unit 4.
