Abstract
PURPOSE: A bacterium assimilating uric acid and producing uricase outside the cells, which belongs to Streptomyces, is cultured to produce uricase with high specificity to uric acid.
CONSTITUTION: A bacterium of Streptomyces, which assimilates uric acid and produces uricase outside the cells, that is Streptomyces u-1 (FERM 4676), is cultured using saccharides as soluble polysaccharide or monosaccharide and uric acid as sources of carbon and nitrogen and uricase with high specificity to uric acid is collected from the filtrate of the culture medium.
