Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform connection of good efficiency by searching out the outside diameter to be connected while measuring the outside diameter of the end part of a pair of optical fibers formed by beforehand varying the outside diameter near the end part at a short period, then cutting the same and connecting these at the same outside diameter and inside diameter portions.
CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber 1 whose outside diameter near the end part to be connected is beforehand varied at a short period l is formed. When in the optical fibers 1a, 1b to be connected one end face 2a thereof corresponds to the diameter expanded portion, the other end face 2b is measured and is then cut at the corresponding outside diameter portion X shown by the dotted line in the figure and both end faces 2a, 2b are butted and connected at the same outside diameter and inside diameter. Since in this way both optical fibers 1a, 1b may be connected by butting the both end faces 2a, 2b of the same outside diameter and inside diameter, the connection of good efficiency entirely free from the leakage of light being transmitted may be accomplished.
