Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a glass product contg. air bubbles at the bottom thick part by intermittently pressure-feeding a fixed vol. of air into molten glass in the orifice of a glass gob feeder from the tip of an air feed pipe made of heat resistant metal after which molten glass contg. air bubbles is extruded from the orifice, cut and molded.
CONSTITUTION: Molten glass 5 is introduced into gob feeder 1, and a fixed vol. of air is fed into air pipe 62 from compressed air feeder 8. The air is pressure-fed into glass 5 in orifice 4 from the tip of pipe 62, forming air bubbles 9. A fixed quantity of glass 5 contg. bubbles 9 is then extruded from orifice 4 with falling plunger 61 and cut with shearing mechanism 11 which acts in synchronism with plunger 61, thus giving glass gob 12 contg. bubbles 9.
