Abstract

PURPOSE: A saccharide-transfusing agent obtained by the addition of xylitol in maltose in a specific ratio, which remarkably reduces the maltose evacuation into urine.
CONSTITUTION: Maltose and xylitol are blended in a weight ratio of 7:3W9:1. The concentration of saccharides is preferably adjusted in order to make the solution isotonic to blood. For example, when the ratio of maltose to xylitol is 7:3, the concentration is preferably ca. 7.7% (w/v); when 8:2, ca. 8.35% (w/v); and when 9:1, ca. 9.55% (w/v). The solution is preferably in the range of pH 6.0W7.5. Maltose can be transfused twice in concentration as glucose. The loss of maltose into urine, which is a disadvantage of maltose, can be suppressed by the blend of xylitol.
