Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of cavity-form defects by adding Zr prior to pouring of adamite material molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: In the centrifugal casting method of adamite material in which casting thickness is increased, Zr is added to the molten adamite material prior to pouring. In the case of Zr along, its high melting temperature makes its melting into the molten material difficult, and therefore Zr alloy such as ZrSi or FeZr is used. As the amount of addition of Zr, it is so made that its residual amount in adamite material becomes within a range of 0.01W0.16%. Namely, in the case of the amount lower than this range, it becomes insufficient to prevent the defect that cavity-form defects 6 occur in the thick-walled part of the outer layer 3 of, for example, composite sleeve for wide flange beam rolling. On the other hand, in the case of the amount above this range, it fails to provide its proper effect and the results are not only uneconomy but alot degraded fluidity of molten metal and impaired castability.
