Abstract
PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a magnetic head while making easy reading form a magnetic medium of a high frequency and writing on that of high coercive force, by employing a thin amorphous metallic film for at least part of a thin ferromagnetic film forming the magnetic path of a thin-film magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:On substrate A of crystal, etc., thin amorphous metallic film 1 of an alloy, etc., of boron and iron is formed by nonelectrolytic plating, vapor-deposition, etc., to obtain lower magnetic layer 1. Next, an insulating layer is formed and on it, coiled aluminum conductor 3 is formed. On the conductor, upper magnetic layer 2 is formed of an amorphous metallic film giving gap 5 to its surface opposing to the magnetic medium, thereby obtaining a thin-film head. Conductor 3 is connected at junction part 3. Since amorphous metal is high in specific resistance, a decrease in magnetic permeability due to an eddy current loss at a high frequency is lessened to make a high-frequency read easy and writing is also simplified because of high saturated magnetic-flux density. Additionally, hardness is high and the abrasion of a head surface and the destruction of a gap part are eliminated, so that the life can be prolonged.
