Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the removal of air bubbles in the ink passage and a pouring of ink in an ink-on-demand type ink jet device by a method wherein liquid having a low surface tension is introduced into the ink passage at an initial time of operation of the device or at a time when the air bubbles are mixed in the liquid. CONSTITUTION:The ink passage 11 for supplying ink to an ink jet head 1 is connected to a tank 14 and a tank 18 via valves 12 and 16. The tank 14 contains sodium dodecylbenzensulfonate solution having high surface activation and the tank 18 contains ink 19. When the device is at first used or when the ink tank is to be replaced or when the air bubbles are mixed in the tank, at first the valve 12 is opened, the valve 16 is closed, solution 15 is poured, and the gas contained in it is completely discharged. After that, the valve 12 is closed, the valve 16 is opened and the ink 19 is poured into the head. Thereby it is facilitated to perform a pouring of ink having a high degree of viscosity.
