Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 1,4-benzdioxanesulfonamide derivative of formula I [R is exomethylene group, CH2X (X is H, halogen, OH, etc.), or COY (Y is OH, hologen, alkoxy group, etc.); R' is H, halogen, or aryloxy group; R2 is H or halogen].
EXAMPLE: 2-Hydroxymethyl-7-chloro-1, 4-benzdioxane-6-sulfonamide.
USE: Hypotensive agents having almost the same hypotensive action as Trichlormethiazide which is a diuretic hypotensive agent.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reduced catalytically to form a compound of formula III, which is diazotized to give a diazonium salt. The salt is then subjected to the modified Sandmeyer reaction to afford a sulfonyl chloride, which is reacted with conc. ammonium hydroxide to yield the compounds of formulas Ia and Ib.
