Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The title compound of formula I (X1 and X2 are H or halogen; Y is halogen; Z is OH, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, lower alkenyloxy, benzyloxy, phenyloxy, -0-cation; m is an integer 1W4; n is 0 or 2).
EXAMPLE: α-[ 2-Chloro-4-( 5-trifluoromethylpyridin-2-yloxy )phenoxy ]-propionic acid ethyl ester.
USE: A herbicide capable of killing grass weeds without doing damage to broadleaf plants.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II (Hal is halogen) is reacted with a compound of formula VI (Z1 is OH,-0-cation, or lower alkoxy group) in the presence of an alkaline substance to give the compound of formula IV.
