Abstract

PURPOSE:To readily realize the coupling of good efficiency between a semiconductor element and an optical fiber by integrally coupling the substrate fixed with a semiconductor chip and the optical fiber support member fixed with the optical fiber by using coupling members. CONSTITUTION:The alignment mark 2 of a substrate 1 and the alignment mark 5 of an optical semiconductor chip 4 are matched and the chip 4 is fixed on the substrate 1. There are holes 3 in the substrate 1 and a light emitting part (or photo detecting part) 6 is provided on the chip. There are pins 8 and a fiber-fixing hole 9 in an optical fiber support member 7. An optical fiber 10 is fixed in this hole 9 and its end face is flush to the front face of the support member 7. The pins 8 are fitted into the holes 3 and the substrate 1 and support member 7 are integrally coupled so that the chip 4 surface and the fiber 10 end face oppose to each other in parallel.
