Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the adhering property, flexibility and overlap coating property of an aqueous inorganic zinc-rich primer, by adding zinc powder to a vehicle in which an aqueous solution of an alkali silicate and a synthetic resin emulsion are blended with each other at a prescribed ratio.
CONSTITUTION: Zinc powder is added to a vehicle in which an aqueous solution of an alkali silicate represented by the formula, where M denotes an alkali metal of Group IA, m denotes a positive number and n denotes O or a positive number, and a synthetic resin emulsion such as an acryl emulsion are blended with each other at a solid content ratio of 1:0.01W0.5. An aqueous inorganic zinc-rich primer is thus produced. In a coated film made from the primer, the alkali silicate and the zinc constitute a reticulate high-molecular structure and the alkali metal M is removed out of the structure by CO2 gas and moisture in the air. The added synthetic resin improves the overlap coating property of the primer and the flexibility, painting property and welding property of the coated film.
