Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a cigarette filter having low smoking resistance, and free from falling-off of the activated charcoal from the filter, by dispersing short fibers and activated charcoal in water, and depositing the mixture to a substrate sheet in strips.
CONSTITUTION: A slurry obtained by dispersing short fibers such as pulp in water, is charged into a bath 1, and converted to a substrate sheet 14 by use of a rotary cylindrical net 2, a pressure roll 5 and a belt 11. In the same manner, the bath 3 is fed with a mixed slurry containing short fibers and activated carbon fibers, and the slurry is deposited on a belt 12 using a suction-type rotary net 4 composed of meshed parts and non-meshed parts alternately arranged in stripes, and a pressure roll 6. The striped sheet of the activated carbon is transferred to the surface of the substrate sheet 14 in a suction box 13, dried, and cut to a piece containing the substrate sheet and the carbon-containing sheet in pairs. The piece is rolled to obtain a filter tip of cigarette.
