Abstract

PURPOSE:To make up ink shortage from the results of detection by detecting the liquid level of each tank from the differences in the transmittances of light through combinations of the rates of consumption of inks in respective ink tanks. CONSTITUTION:Since inks of Y, M, C have specific light absorbing regions, the transmitted light at a certain fixed value of the height from the bottom of tanks comes in 8 ways depending upon the combinations of the cases when the respective inks are consumed. From these, whether the inks in the respective tanks are above a fixed level or not is detected. The liquid levels are detected by moving the liquid level detecting tank 2 supported on a carriage 1 and setting the liquid level detector 5 consisting of a light emitting part 6 and light receiving part 7 and are compared with reference levels, whereby the curreft levels are judged. If any ink is short, the ink is replenished to each ink tank 3 of Y, M, C from an ink repleneshing part 8. 4 denotes an injection head.
