Abstract

PURPOSE: Title stabilizer preventing initial discoloration, that is composed of a low arsenic content antimonium mercaptocarboxylate and a dihydric orthophenol.
CONSTITUTION: (A) an antimonium mercaptocarboxylate or its ester salt or their mixture that contains less than 0.10, preferably less than 0.01% of arsenic and is given as formula I [R1 is SR3OH, S-Z-(COOR2)m; R2 is H, alkyl; R3 is 2W8C alkylene; S-Z-COOR2 is, e.g., mercaptocarboxylic acid; n1, n2, n4 are 0W2; n3 is 0W10; m16Wm3 is 1W6; Z is 1W5C alkylene containing S] is blended with (B) a dihydric ortho-phenol of formula II (R is hydroxy, halogen, alkyl; n is 0W4) in a proportion of 100:1W2:1. To polyvinyl chloride resin is added 0.20W2.0 wt% of the resulting stabilizer and the initial discoloration for at least 10W20 min can be prevented at the practical processing temperature of over 375°F.
