Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate a mixed-bed consisting of anion and cation exchange resins into each resin which forms upper or lower layers, and to regenerate the resins without mixing with each other, by separating them into upper and lower layers by upward water-flow by utilization of specific gravity difference, and by removing the intermediate layer consisting of the both resins from regenerating process.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of anion and cation exchange resins having been used in a mixed-bed demineralizer and a fixed quantity of the both resins (a quantity corresponding to the intermediate layer which partitions the both resins) is developed in the tower by upward water-flow and is separated into the following three layers; an upper layer consisting of anion exchange resin only, an intermediate layer consisting of the both resins and a lower layer consisting of cation exchange resin only. The layers are taken out of the tower, then the upper and lower layers are regenerated with respective regenerating agents, and the intermediate layer drawn off is separated into each resin at the next regeneration period together with the resins which are to be separated and regenerated.
