Abstract
PURPOSE: A fluoroscent type liquid crystal displayer which has an advantage of lower power consumption peculiar to passive type display and also a self-luminous active display, prepared by adding a chromogenic species emitting phosphor within visible light region to a liquid crystal whose principal component is an aromatic ester compound.
CONSTITUTION: The transparent material 1 of In2O3, etc., is adhered to the transparent base plate 2 of glass, etc., and also a back electrode of a reflective material, e.g., aluminium, etc., or of a transparent material, In2O3, etc., is adhered to the back base plate 4 which is in turn is situated at a place in the face of the base plate 2. Then, between the both base plates 2 and 4 is sealed with the sealant 3 of epoxy resin, etc., to consitute a displayer, and then the displayer is filled up with the liquid crystal material 6 composed primarily of an aromatic ester compound of the formulas 1 to 3 having Namatic phase and cholestric phase, e.g., p-butyl-benzoic acid-cyanophenyl-ester. And, an aromatic compound, e.g., anthracene, etc., as the fluoroscent species 8 is added to the material 6 to constitute a luminous displayer of a low power consumption type.
