Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the transmission efficiency and the voice quality by stopping the operation of a coder when a silent part of the sound signal is discriminated. CONSTITUTION:The silent part of the sound signal inputted from an input terminal 3 is discriminated by a voice discriminating device. Then the action control signal (a) of a coder 7 is outputted and a coder 7 stops its coding action as well as its output. Therefore a packet does not reach a voice packet disassembler 9 and the action control signal (b) of a decoder 10 is outputted from the disassembler 9. Thus the decoder 10 stops its decoding action and its output, and no output is received from an output terminal 4. Thus only the voice part of the packet is transmitted. Consequently, the transmission efficiency is improved together with the improvement of the voice quality since the coincidence is always secured between the actions of the coder 7 of the transmission side and the decoder 10 of the reception side.

As mentioned above, the audio packet assembling and disassembling device in the conventional system packetizes all audio signals regardless of whether they are voiced or silent, so meaningless silent signals are also packetized, and in the packet method, the information to be transmitted tends to be Adding a header results in an increase in the amount of transmitted information and a deterioration in transmission efficiency. Also, by compressing the silent part and making it into a special silent packet, the amount of transmitted information is reduced,
Fluctuations in the arrival time of packets cause the transmitting encoder and receiving decoder to be out of synchronization, degrading the quality of the audio signal.

Referring to FIG. 1 showing an embodiment of the present invention, a voice packet assembly/disassembly bag W1 on the transmitting side having an input terminal 3 for voice signals is connected to a voice packet assembly and disassembling bag W1 on the receiving side having an output terminal 4 for voice signals via a communication line 11. It is connected to the voice packet assembly/disassembly device 2. The audio packet assembling and disassembling device 1 on the transmitting side includes a voice discriminator 6 that analyzes the voice signal and discriminates between a voiced part and a silent part of the voice signal, and a voice discriminator 6 that analyzes the voice signal and discriminates the voice signal according to the discrimination processing time of the voice discriminator 6. Delay device 5 to delay and this delay device 5
and an audio packet assembler 8 that assembles the encoded audio signal into packets together with control information. On the other hand, the audio packet assembling and disassembling device 2 on the receiving side includes an audio packet decomposer that decomposes received packets, and a decoder 10 that decodes the audio signal output from the decomposer 9.

The sound portion of the audio signal input from the audio signal input terminal 3 is encoded by the encoder 7, and assembled into packets by the audio packet assembler 8.The assembled packets are used for communication. The audio data is transmitted to the voice packet decomposer 9 via the line 11, where the packets are decomposed. Further, the decoder 10 decodes the signal into an audio signal, and outputs the audio signal from the audio signal output terminal 4.

As explained above, the present invention detects speech and silence in an audio signal, and when there is silence, stops the operation of the encoder and decoder, stops the output of the encoder and decoder, and stops packetization, By configuring the encoder and decoder to continue operating from the state in which the encoder and decoder stopped output when the transition to voice activity occurs, the only packets to be transmitted are the voice area, which improves transmission efficiency. In addition, the operation of the transmitting side encoder and the receiving side decoder can be always synchronized to improve the voice quality.
