Abstract

PURPOSE:To obviate the decrease in surface area and to obtain a bright color display by forming the transparent electrodes formed in correspondence to color filters to the width slightly larger than the width of the color filters. CONSTITUTION:The color filters 2 of three primary colors are formed on the opposite surface of a transparent substrate 1. A black matrix 3 is formed between these color filters 2. The color filters 2 and the black matrix 3 are coated with an org. film 4 consisting of a top coat and the transparent electrodes 5 are formed thereon. Further, an oriented film 6 is formed on the transparent electrodes 5. The oriented film 6 is subjected to an orientation treatment. The transparent electrodes 8 are formed in correspondence to the color filters 2 on the opposite surface of a transparent substrate 7 provided to face the transparent substrate 1. These electrodes are formed to the width A slightly larger than the width C of the color filters 2. The display area of the color filters 2 does not change even if the transparent electrodes 1 and the color filters 2 deviate and, therefore, the bright color display is obtd.
