A recess extending rearward and extending in the front-rear direction, which is open to the back face surface, is provided. The recess is formed in a parallel portion having a constant width or a substantially constant width on the front side and is continuously connected to the parallel portion on the rear side. A wood-type golf club head is characterized in that the width is gradually increased toward the rear and is formed in an opening portion opened to the back face surface.

In order to utilize this property, in the wood-type club head having the above-described configuration, the front and rear portions of the sole face, which extend rearward from the position rearwardly separated from the rear face of the shell wall, are opened to the back face face at the center in the width direction. A recess extending in the direction is provided. As a result, the depth of the center of gravity is increased by the weight of the shell walls on both sides of the recess, and the sweet spot is widened. Therefore, the hit probability at the sweet spot is increased, the directionality is good, and a straight flight without slices or hooks is realized.

The weight of the shell walls on both sides of the recess provides a low center of gravity and a high trajectory.

The shell walls on both sides are concentrated and explosively transmit energy to the ball at the moment of hitting the ball, so that a so-called hammer effect is produced and a flight distance is increased. Moreover, since both side walls that sandwich the parallel portion are spaced from each other and are located at positions separated from the back surface of the face-constituting shell wall, the ball muscle does not become unstable.

The low resistance at that time does not significantly hinder the swing-out property. In addition, since the recess has the parallel portion, the sole surface is thus grounded during the swinging process, and the parallel portion of the recess acts to guide the head straight. Therefore, even if the sole surface comes into contact with the ground due to a miss shot or the like as described above, the ball travels a great distance with good directionality.

The reason why it is preferable to set in the range of 1/2 is as follows.

The tendency is likely to appear. Also,
When the width B of the parallel portion becomes larger than 30 mm, the shell wall on the bottom surface of the parallel portion becomes larger accordingly, which tends to raise the position of the center of gravity and tend to lower the high ballistic effect due to the low center of gravity. , The grounding stability during stance tends to deteriorate, and further changes in loft and instability in setting are likely to occur. For this reason, it is preferable that the width B of the recess parallel portion is set in the range of 10 to 20 mm.

るのがよい。When the depth D of the parallel portion becomes smaller than 5 mm, the effect of increasing the weight of the side walls sandwiching the recess becomes insufficient, so that the sweet spot becomes wider due to the increase of the depth of the center of gravity, and the effect of lowering the center of gravity is reduced. It tends to be difficult to appear. Further, when the recess depth D exceeds 1/2 of the head height H and becomes large, this also tends to make it difficult for the low center of gravity effect to appear. For this reason, the depth D of the recess parallel portion is preferably set in the range of 5 to 15 mm.

よい。If the length L of the parallel portion is less than 10 mm, the hammer effect tends to be poor. Further, when the length L of the parallel portion becomes larger than 40 mm and becomes large, the opening portion becomes narrower in the front-rear direction, and the intentional swinging tends to be difficult. For this reason, the length L of the recess parallel part is
Is particularly preferably set in the range of 20 to 35 mm.

Is formed. The weight of these shell walls (11) (11) deepens the depth of the center of gravity of the head (1) and realizes a structure with a low center of gravity. From the above position, there is provided a recess extending in the front-rear direction that is open to the back face surface and extends rearward, and the recess is formed in a parallel portion having a constant width or a substantially constant width on the front side and the parallel portion on the rear side. In addition, by the action of both side shell walls extending in the front-rear direction sandwiching the recess parallel portion, it is possible to further increase the flight distance by the hammer effect, and the both side shell walls are spaced from each other, and Since the parallel portion extends rearward from a position separated rearward from the back surface of the face-constituting shell wall, it is possible to realize a stable ball striking hammer effect ball. Also, due to the action of the recess parallel part,
Even if the sole surface touches the ground during the swing process, it is possible to fly the ball with good directionality and a large flight distance. Further, the action of the recess opening portion enables smooth intentional swing-out.
