It is known from specification No. 3438705. However, since this copying apparatus controls the developing bias voltage regardless of the background density of the original, when a colored original such as colored paper or a diazo copy with a blue background is copied, the background of the copy is stained. Further, there is known a device that detects reflected light from a predetermined portion of a document and controls the developing bias voltage according to the maximum value thereof, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 53-95031. However, since this device detects the reflected light from a part of the document, if that part has a dark pattern, that is, a unique area darker than normal white, the poor reproduction will be poor. Furthermore, the time required to detect the reflected light from the original is equal to the time required to scan the original, which slows down the copying speed.

It is placed on the right side of the document 3 on the document platform 2 and attached to the end of the document platform 2 . Light source 4, first
During exposure, the scanning device composed of the mirror 5 and the second mirror 6 is driven by a drive device from the initial position to the left at a constant speed, so that the reference white plate 1 and the original 3 are sequentially scanned, and the light source 4 illuminates the reference white plate 1 and the original 3 in order, and the reflected light passes through the first mirror 5, the second mirror 6, the through lens 7, the third mirror 8, and the fourth mirror 9, and then reaches the photosensitive drum 10. and enters the detector 11.
This detector 11 constitutes a detection means for detecting the amount of reflected light from the reference white plate 1 and the original 3. The photosensitive drum 10 is rotationally driven by a driving device and uniformly charged by a charging corona discharger 12, and then the non-image forming area is neutralized by a static eliminating lamp 13, and as described above, the original image is exposed and a latent image is formed. It is formed. This latent image is developed by a developing device 15 having a developing sleeve 14, and the image on the photoreceptor drum 10 is transferred by a transfer corona discharger 17 to a transfer paper P fed from a paper feeding device via a registration roller 16. and is separated from the photoreceptor drum 10 by a separating corona discharger 18. The transfer paper P has an image fixed thereon by a fixing device and is discharged as a copy to the outside. After the transfer paper is separated, the photosensitive drum 10 is cleaned by a cleaning blade 19 and neutralized by a charge removal lamp 20 in preparation for the next copy.

S 4 connects to the central processing unit 23 via the input/output port 22
is input. The output signal S 1 of the detector 11 is converted into a digital signal S 2 by the analog/digital converter 24 and sent to the central processing unit 23 via the input/output port 22 . The central processing unit 23 learns from the signal S4 from the scanner position detector 21 that the reference white plate 1 is being scanned by the optical systems 4 to 6, and
A digital signal S 2 corresponding to the amount of reflected light F 0 of the reference white plate 1 is read and stored in the memory 25 (or internal register). Thereafter, the central processing unit 23 learns the time during which the optical systems 4 to 6 scan the leading edge 3a of the original 3 from the signal S4 from the scanner position detector 21, and corresponds to the reflected light amount F1 of the leading edge 3a of the original 3. The digital signal S 2 is read in and compared with the digital signal corresponding to the amount of reflected light F 0 of the reference white plate 1 stored in the memory 25, and based on the result, the control signal for the controlled object (developing bias voltage) is determined by the program. and send this control signal to input/output port 22
It is output to the developing bias power supply 26 via. The developing bias power supply 26 applies a developing bias voltage to the developing sleeve 14 of the developing device 15 in accordance with the control signal. In this case, the central processing unit 23 as the first and second control means is F 1 <F 0 −f 0 f 0 : When the amount of light is arbitrary, the first control unit central processing unit 23
Therefore, the developing bias voltage is set according to F 0 , and when F 1 ≧F 0 −f 0 , the developing bias voltage is set according to F 1 by the central processing means 23 serving as the second control means. For this reason, the central processing unit 23 has two control means that control the image density by setting copying conditions (developing bias voltage) based on the amount of light reflected from the reference white plate 1, and a It has a detection means for detecting whether the difference in the amount of light reflected from the tip is greater than or equal to a predetermined value or less than a predetermined value, and a selection means for selecting one of the above two control means based on the detection result of the detection means. become. Therefore, there may be dark solid areas (for example,
When ID>1), F 1 <F 0 −f 0 and the developing bias voltage is set to a value corresponding to F 0 so that poor reproduction does not deteriorate. When copying a colored original such as an original using normal white paper, colored paper, or a diazo copy with a blue background, F 1 ≥ F 0 − f 0 , and the developing bias voltage is set to a value corresponding to F 1 , and the copying Does not cause skin stains.

The density detection speed for controlling the image density can be increased, and the cost can be reduced to almost the same as the conventional method. Furthermore, the detection means includes a detection means for detecting whether the difference in the amount of reflected light from the reference reflecting portion detected by the detection means and the leading edge of the document is greater than or equal to a predetermined value or less than a predetermined value, and the detection result of the detection means is provided. Accordingly, when the difference in the amount of reflected light is less than a predetermined value, the selection means recognizes the leading edge of the document as the background, and the second control means sets copying conditions, so that the difference in the amount of reflected light is equal to or less than a predetermined value. In this case, the first control means sets the copying conditions not based on the amount of light reflected from the leading edge of the document, so when the difference in the amount of reflected light is less than a predetermined value, the second control means sets the copying conditions. , it is possible to prevent background stains from occurring even in colored originals such as colored paper or diazo copies with a blue background, and when the difference in the amount of reflected light is in a unique area where the difference in the amount of reflected light is greater than a predetermined value, the amount of reflected light from the reference reflecting section is changed. Based on this, the first control means prevents poor reproduction from deteriorating even if the area to be subjected to density detection is a peculiar area such as a solid black area on the document. Therefore, based on the detection results, it is possible to determine whether the leading edge of the document is a background or a unique area such as a dark solid area, and control can be performed accordingly. can be reproduced.
