Description
(1) 光導波路が形成された光導波路基板と、該光導波路基板に設けられ、該光導波路に変調信号に対応する電界を印加する変調電極とを有する光変調素子と、該光変調素子の近傍に配置され、該変調信号を終端する終端抵抗を含む終端手段を基板の表面に備えた終端基板とを、筐体内に収容した光変調器において、該終端基板の表面に、金属で形成した良熱伝導体を設け、該良熱伝導体は該終端手段から離間されて配置されると共に、該終端手段に対して該光導波路基板と反対側に配置されており、該良熱伝導体と該筐体とを接続する放熱補助手段を設け、かつ、該終端手段と該放熱補助手段との間の距離は、該終端手段から該終端基板の該光導波路基板側の端部までの距離よりも短く設定されていることを特徴とする。
図2乃至8は、終端基板の平面図であり、本発明においては、光導波路が形成された光導波路基板と、該光導波路基板に設けられ、該光導波路に変調信号に対応する電界を印加する変調電極とを有する光変調素子と、該光変調素子の近傍に配置され、該変調信号を終端する終端抵抗70を備えた終端基板7とを、筐体内に収容した光変調器において、図2乃至7に示すように、該終端抵抗と該筐体との間に放熱補助手段(10~13)を設け、かつ、該終端抵抗と該放熱補助手段との間の距離bは、該終端抵抗から該終端基板の該光導波路基板側の端部までの距離aよりも短く設定されているか、又は、図8に示すように、該終端抵抗70から該終端基板7の該光導波路基板と反対側の端部までの距離bは、該終端抵抗70から該終端基板7の該光導波路基板側の端部までの距離aよりも短く設定されていることを特徴とする。
また本構成は、終端抵抗や筐体内部設計等の都合上、ワイヤボンディング実施や金属箔設置が困難な場合等、好適に用いる事ができる。
光送信装置の基本構成は、光変調器に導入する光波を発生する光源、光変調器、光変調器に信号を印加するデータ生成部、及び光変調器から発生する変調光を外部に導出するための光ファイバから構成される。

Claims (6)
- 光導波路が形成された光導波路基板と、
該光導波路基板に設けられ、該光導波路に変調信号に対応する電界を印加する変調電極とを有する光変調素子と、
該光変調素子の近傍に配置され、該変調信号を終端する終端抵抗を含む終端手段を基板の表面に備えた終端基板とを、筐体内に収容した光変調器において、
該終端基板の表面に、金属で形成した良熱伝導体を設け、該良熱伝導体は該終端手段から離間されて配置されると共に、該終端手段に対して該光導波路基板と反対側に配置されており、
該良熱伝導体と該筐体とを接続する放熱補助手段を設け、かつ、該終端手段と該放熱補助手段との間の距離は、該終端手段から該終端基板の該光導波路基板側の端部までの距離よりも短く設定されていることを特徴とする光変調器。 - 請求項1に記載の光変調器において、該光導波路基板に複数の変調電極が設けられ、該終端基板には複数の終端手段が設けられていることを特徴とする光変調器。
- 請求項1又は2に記載の光変調器において、該放熱補助手段は、該良熱伝導体と該筐体とを接続する、金属箔、ボンディングワイヤ、又は熱伝導性接着剤のいずれかであることを特徴とする光変調器。
- 請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の光変調器において、該良熱伝導体は、金属膜であることを特徴とする光変調器。
- 請求項1乃至4のいずれかに記載の光変調器において、該終端基板の厚さは、該光導波路基板よりも薄く形成され、該終端基板が搭載される該筐体の搭載面と、該光導波路基板が搭載される該筐体の搭載面との間には段差が形成されていることを特徴とする光変調器。
- 請求項1乃至5のいずれかに記載の光変調器と、
該光変調器に印加するデータ信号を発生するデータ発生部と、
該光変調器に光波を入力する光源とを備えることを特徴とする光送信装置。
