整列されたナノロッドおよびLC材料を含む光学活性構造であって、ナノロッドは、ポンピング光に応答して1以上の選択された第2の波長範囲の光を放出するように構成される、前記光学活性構造と、
外部場を提供し、それによってLC材料およびナノロッドの配向を局所的に変化させ、それによってナノロッドからの光放出を変調する電極装置であって;一般に、LCの配向における変化は、ナノロッドの配向の対応する変化を誘発し、それにより、ディスプレイ装置の所望の画素領域からの光放射を選択的に変調するように構成される、前記電極装置と、を含む。

2.異方性蛍光半導体ナノ構造(ナノロッド)を含む。
しかしながら、ナノ構造の液晶への挿入を可能にするおよび/または簡略化するために、リガンドおよび添加剤のような追加の成分を光学活性層に使用することができることに留意すべきである。
したがって、偏光子は、オフ状態で放出された非偏光光の約50%を遮断し、オン状態で放出された偏光光の大部分を伝搬するので、偏光子フィルタを使用するとコントラスト比をほぼ倍にすることができる。ただし、オフ状態の光放出は実質的に無視できる程度に構成されている。この効果は、画素領域内の比較的均質な液晶配向を利用したディスプレイ装置において最も重要であることにさらに留意されたい。これは、典型的には、画素領域のマルチドメイン型構成が、偏光子フィルタの使用に利益をもたらさない場合があるからである。
Claims (15)
- 所望の画像を生成するパターン化された照明を生成するように構成された光学活性構造を含むディスプレイ装置であって、前記光学活性構造は、ポンピングエネルギーに応答して所定の波長範囲の出力光を放出するように構成された光学活性ナノロッドおよび液晶材料を含む少なくとも1つの層を含み、前記ディスプレイ装置が可視光に対して少なくとも部分的に透明であり、前記ディスプレイ装置が、可視光の15%以上がディスプレイを透過するように構成され、装置の背後に位置する背景シーンから到達する光の上にカラー画像を提供することができるように構成されている、前記ディスプレイ装置。
- 前記少なくとも1つの層が、液晶材料の配向における変化が光学活性ナノロッドの配向における対応する変化をもたらすような前記光学活性ナノロッドおよび前記液晶材料の混合物を含む、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記光学活性ナノロッドが、第1の所定の波長範囲の光学ポンピングとなるポンピングエネルギーに応答するように構成されることで、1以上の第2の波長範囲の光を放出する、請求項1または2に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記第1の所定の波長範囲が、紫色光および紫外光波長の少なくとも1つを含み、前記1以上の第2の波長範囲は可視光を含む、請求項3に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記光学活性構造が、前記液晶材料上に電場を選択的に印可するように構成された電極配置を含むことで、その配向における変化をもたらす、請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記電極配置が、前記光学活性構造の別々に操作される複数の画素領域を画定する複数の電極要素を含む、請求項5に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記光学活性ナノロッドが、2以上の種類のナノロッドを含み、各ナノロッドの種類は、所定の異なる波長範囲の光を放出するナノロッドの寸法および構造および組成に従って選択される、請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記2以上の種類のナノロッドが、少なくとも3つの種類のナノロッドを含み、各種類は原色に応答した所定の波長範囲の光を放出するように選択される、請求項7に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- ディスプレイ装置が、第1の波長範囲の光学ポンピングの形態におけるポンピングエネルギーを提供するように構成されるポンピング光源を含むことで、前記光学活性ナノロッドが1以上の第2の波長範囲の光を放出することをもたらす、請求項1〜8のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記ポンピング光源が、前記光学活性構造から所定の距離に位置するように構成され、前記所定の距離が1センチメートルより大きい、請求項9に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 不要な波長範囲の光を除去するように構成される少なくとも1つのフィルター層をさらに含む、請求項1〜10のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記フィルター層が、紫外照明の伝搬を遮断し、可視スペクトルの伝搬を許容するように構成される、請求項11に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 前記液晶材料および前記光学活性構造の光学活性ナノロッドが、構造の特定の領域における前記液晶材料の配向における変化が前記特定の領域における前記光学活性ナノロッドの回転の変化をもたらすように混合されることで、ポンピングエネルギーに応答して前記ナノロッドからの光学的放出を増加または低減させる、請求項1〜12のいずれか一項に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 液晶材料の配向の変化および対応する光学活性ナノロッドの配向の変化が、光学活性ナノロッドの長軸が光出力伝播の全体的な方向に平行になるように光学活性ナノロッドが整列するオフ状態、および光学活性ナノロッドの長軸が前記少なくとも1つの層の表面に平行になりポンピングエネルギーに応答して光を放出するように光学活性ナノロッドが整列するオン状態を提供する、請求項1〜13に記載のディスプレイ装置。
- 光学活性構造がさらに、液晶材料の配向に関連した1以上の中間状態を提供することで、1以上の画素領域からの光学的放出の1以上の中間レベルを可能にするように構成される、請求項14に記載のディスプレイ装置。
