主気室1は、車両トリム側基布7と乗員側中間基布8から形成され、副気室2は、乗員側中間基布8と対向パネル部9とその間に存在し、両基布を連結する側縁パネル部10とで構成されている。
主気室1と副気室2の関係としては、副気室2は主気室1の略4分の3以下の大きさで構成している(図1・図3参照)。また、主気室1には、エアバッグ容量を小さく保てるように車両上下方向に、車両左右方向の膨張を規定するテザー11が設けられている。
エアバッグ展開時には、主気室1は車両前方側に展開し、副気室2は車両左右方向に展開する。このように気室毎に展開方向が違っているのが、本発明の特徴である。
このように、展開方向の違う主気室1と副気室2を備え、また、主気室1の容量とバッグ厚さを抑えることによって、車体と乗員の間の狭い空間であっても、乗員を保護しなければいけない領域に素早く展開することが可能である。

As described above, the main air chamber 1 and the sub air chamber 2 having different deployment directions are provided, and by suppressing the capacity of the main air chamber 1 and the bag thickness, even in a narrow space between the vehicle body and the occupant, It is possible to quickly deploy to areas where passengers must be protected.
