Description
本発明の実施例を、以下の例を参照しながらより詳細に説明する。なお、以下の例は本発明を限定することを意図するものではない。
非結合ダイヤモンド砥粒の塊を、結合相としてコバルトを有する超硬合金基板の表面に載置し、この組立体をモリブデンジャケットで封止して成形前組立体を形成した。ダイヤモンド砥粒の塊は、約1ミクロンから約10ミクロンの範囲の平均粒度を有し、それぞれの平均粒度が約2ミクロンと約10ミクロンのダイヤモンド砥粒の2つのソースを混合したものを含んでいた。成形前組立体を超高圧炉用のカプセルに充填し、十分な時間、約1,400℃に加熱且つ約5.5GPaに加圧して、焼結PCD成形体を形成した。PCD成形体は、界面にて超硬合金基板に接合された層の形態のPCD材料と、該界面と反対側のPCD層の表面に接合された炭化モリブデンを含む層とを含んでいた。炭化モリブデン層は、モリブデンジャケットとダイヤモンド塊からの炭素との反応によって生成されたと考えられる。炭化モリブデン層はまた、幾らかの量の未反応のモリブデンを含んでいた。多結晶ダイヤモンド層は、基板との界面及び炭化モリブデン層との界面から測定した厚さが約300ミクロンであり、第二相含有コバルトを含んでいた。
PCD成形体を、PCD層の厚さを約150ミクロンとするとともに、炭化モリブデンを含む第2副層の厚さを約35ミクロンとして保護層の合計の厚さを約60ミクロンとした以外は、例1と同様に作成した。PCD成形体を加工して、全体の厚さが1.3mm且つ楔角が60度のカッター要素を形成した。
PCD成形体を、炭化モリブデンを含む第2副層の厚さを約8ミクロンとして、保護層の合計の厚さを約33ミクロンとした以外は、例2と同様に作成した。PCD成形体を加工して、全体の厚さが1.3mm且つ楔角が60度のカッター要素を形成した。
PCD成形体を、PCD層の厚さを約150ミクロンとするとともに、炭化モリブデンを含む第2副層の厚さを約80ミクロンとして保護層の合計の厚さを約105ミクロンとした以外は、例1と同様に作成した。PCD成形体を加工して、全体の厚さが1.3mm且つ楔角が45度のカッター要素を形成した。
PCD成形体を、PCD層の厚さを約350ミクロンとするとともに、炭化モリブデンを含む第2副層の厚さを約95ミクロンとして保護層の合計の厚さを約120ミクロンとした以外は、例1と同様に作成した。PCD成形体を加工して、全体の厚さが2.2mm且つ楔角が45度のカッター要素を形成した。
Claims (15)
- 木材、金属、セラミック材料、又は複合材料を含むワークを機械加工するための超硬カッター要素であって、すくい面側部及び逃げ面側部を有するとともに前記すくい面側部及び前記逃げ面側部が互いの間に楔角を有する超硬構造体であって、少なくとも25GPaのビッカーズ硬さを有する超硬材料からなる超硬構造体と、前記超硬構造体が有する前記すくい面側部側にて前記超硬構造体に接合された保護層とを備えた超硬カッター要素であって、前記保護層が前記超硬構造体の前記超硬材料よりも軟質である超硬カッター要素であって、
前記超硬カッター要素のすくい面の縁である切刃に近接する前記保護層の領域が、ミクロン単位で、少なくとも(13.3−0.11ω)、且つ、最大で(380−5.0ω)及び(126.6−0.11ω)のうちの小さいほうの厚さを有し、ここで、前記楔角ωが35度から65度の範囲である超硬カッター要素。 - 前記切刃に近接する前記保護層の領域が、ミクロン単位で、少なくとも(46.7−0.56ω)の厚さを有する請求項1に記載の超硬カッター要素。
