次の表に示すゲル形成用組成物を用いて、以下の手順に従って、化粧品パックに用いられる各実施例・比較例のゲルシートを作成した。合成高分子とヒドロキシプロピルグアーガム(HPグアーガム)もしくはその他の増粘剤に湿潤剤を加え、さらに薬効成分及び水を加えて均一になるまで十分に混練した。
この混合物に、滲出剤としてポリオキシエチレンメチルグルコシド、更には架橋剤と水を加えてよく分散させスラリーとしたものにさらにpH調整剤(酸触媒)を加えて合計100部として、十分に混練攪拌した。次に、平滑なガラス板上に乗せた38μm厚みのPETフィルム(ポリエチレンテレフタレートフィルム)の四隅に1mmの厚みのスペーサーを置き、その中央部分に適量の上記組成物を混合終了後直ちに流し込み、目付け量17g/m2のナイロン編布(トリコットハーフ)と、もう一枚の38μm厚のPETフィルムを重ね、その上からガラス板で挟んでそのまま24時間放置し、厚さ1mmのゲルシートを得た。このゲルシートを5cm×5cmにカットし、評価用の試料とした。

滲出量は小さいと肌への密着性が低下するため使用中に剥がれやすく、皮膚へ浸透する液量も少ないため、保湿感などの効果が不十分であり、大きすぎるとゲルの重さによりズレ落ちたり、過剰な液が垂れて(液ダレ)衣服などに付着してしまうので、滲出量の好ましい範囲は、20〜35(%)である。
