Description
本発明における光源5とは、発光ダイオードや半導体レーザなどの半導体発光素子、冷陰極線管あるいはそれらから種々選択して組み合わせた複合的な光源など、導光板に入射させることができる光を発する発光部材をいう。本実施の形態では、複数の発光ダイオード5が実装基板3の長手方向に離間して配置されている。導光板6への光源の配置の仕方について、本実施の形態では、導光板6の側端面に光源5を配したエッジライト方式を記載しているが、これに限定されるものではなく、導光板の底面側に光源を配した直下型方式としてもよい。
導光板6とは、光入射面、光反射面、および光出射面を有し、光入射面から入射された光を光反射面により導光し、所定の光出射面から所望の形状に発光することができる透光性部材である。したがって、光出射面を所望の形状とすることで、メーター針の針状、液晶バックライト光源など、目的とする種々の形状を取ることができる。導光板6は、光源5からの光を効率よく光出射面から放出するために、透光性を有している。このような導光板6の材料としては、アクリル樹脂やポリカーボネート樹脂、ガラスなど種々の材料が好適に挙げられる。
本実施の形態の下フレーム1は、略矩形形状の平面と側面とを有し、上方の略中央に、光源5と導光板6を収納するための開口部を有している。
本実施の形態の上フレーム8は、略矩形形状の平面と側面とを有している。上フレーム13の平面は、中央にバックライト12から光を取り出すことが可能な窓部を有している。上フレーム8の大きさや形状は、下フレーム11の大きさや形状に合わせて種々選択することができるが、上フレーム8の平面外形寸法は下フレーム1の平面外形寸法よりも大きくすることを必須とする。また、上フレーム8の材料は、上部に表示パネルを載置することから、下フレーム11の材料よりも可撓性に優れた材料を用いることが好ましい。
上述したように、本実施の形態のバックライトユニット100は、下フレーム1と上フレーム8は、それぞれの側面11,81に嵌合部位を有している。本実施の形態のバックライトユニット100は、下フレーム1の側面11の上部11bと上フレーム8の側面81の下部81bは当接して同一面上に位置し、かつ、各リブ部13,83および各突起部12,82は、それぞれ対向する各凹部85,15内に収納されていることから、平面サイズが小さく且つ軽量なバックライトユニットを得ることができる。本発明の嵌合部位の数や形状、その配置場所は、本実施の形態に限定されず、下フレーム1と上フレーム8とを嵌合固定することができればどのような形態でも構わない。

Claims (2)
- 上方に開口部を有する下フレームと、前記開口部内に配置された光源と、前記開口部内に配置され前記光源からの光を導光する導光板と、前記開口部の開口側に配置され前記導光板からの光が透過可能な窓部を備えた上フレームと、を有し、前記下フレームと上フレームは、一方の側面に一体化された突起部と他方の側面から前記一方の側面側に延在し前記突起部が嵌合可能な孔部を備えたリブ部とからなる嵌合部位にて嵌合固定されてなるバックライトユニットにおいて、
側面視において、前記上フレームの側面の下部と前記下フレームの側面の上部は当接しており、前記孔部の幅は前記突起部の幅より大きく、
前記突起部の一方の側方端部を前記孔部の一方の側方端部に当接した際、前記上フレームの側面は、一方の側方端部が前記下フレームの側面の一方の側方端部とほぼ同じ平面上に位置しており、他方の側方端部が前記下フレームの側面の他方の側方端部より外側に位置していることを特徴とするバックライトユニット。 - 前記上フレームの側方の幅と前記下フレームの側方の幅との差は、前記孔部の側方の幅と前記突起部の側方の幅との差と一致することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のバックライトユニット。
