Description
隔壁の高さは、本発明の有機EL素子基板の有効画素内における高低差を決定する要因である。有機EL素子基板の有効画素内における最も高い部分と最も低い部分との差を1μm以下とするためには、隔壁の高さを低く設定するとともに隔壁上に不要な層を積層しない必要がある。また、隔壁で区画された各画素上に形成される層も、薄く均一に形成されているのが好ましい。そのため、各画素電極と隔壁の高さとの差は、後から形成する有機発光媒体層及び対向電極の厚みを考慮すると1.5μm以下であることが好ましい。
図3(a)から(d)は、本発明の凹版オフセット印刷装置および凹版オフセット印刷工程を示した模式図である。図3において本体フレーム11上方にあるブラン胴12の周囲にはブランケット13が装着してある。また、14は印刷ステージであり、印刷時には原版である凹版15または画素電極等が形成された被印刷基板16を固定する。ブラン胴12は回転可能に設置され、ブランケット13と凹版15、ブランケット13と被印刷基板16はそれぞれ一定の圧力で接触可能になっている。また、印刷ステージ14は一軸方向に移動可能になっている。また図3中に示す17は有機発光インキ(以降、インキとする)であり、18は凹版15から余分なインキを掻き取るドクターブレードである。
このガラス基板の薄膜トランジスタ形成側にITOをスパッタリング法で0.1μmの厚さで形成した。全面に形成されたITO上にフォトレジストを塗布し、所定のマスクを介して露光・現像をおこない、続いて、ウェットエッチングをおこなうことにより、薄膜トランジスタに対応する画素電極を形成した。
正孔注入材料としてポリマー前駆体であるポリテトラヒドロチオフェニルフェニレンを用い、これの水溶液をスピンコート法で隔壁によって区画された画素電極上に一面に塗布した。加熱により、前駆体はポリフェニレンビニレンとなり、各画素電極上に厚さ0.05μmの正孔注入層が形成された。
隔壁の高さを2.0μmとして、実施例2と同様に素子を作製すると画素内高低差は約1.7μmとなった。得られた有機EL素子を顕微鏡で観察したが、有機EL素子内に気泡が混入している様子が確認された。

Claims (4)
- 基板と、この基板上に設けられた画素電極と、該画素電極上に異なる発光色を有する有機発光層を含む有機発光媒体層が設けられ、該有機発光媒体層を挟んで画素電極に対向する対向電極を具備する有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子基板と、
該有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子基板上に形成された水蒸気バリア層と、該有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子基板と封止基材とを接着剤を介して張り合わせてなる有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子において、
該有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子基板が隔壁を有し、且つ、前記対向電極が形成された有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子基板の有効画素内における高低差が1μm以下であり、かつ、前記隔壁の高さは画素電極から1.5μm以内であり、
該有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子基板はさらに、
前記対向電極上で、前記有効画素全面に前記対向電極に積層して形成された水蒸気バリア層と、
該水蒸気バリア層上で、前記有効画素全面に形成された接着剤層と、
該接着剤層上に形成された封止基材と、を具備していることを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記水蒸気バリア層が窒化シリコン又は酸化窒化シリコンからなることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記水蒸気バリア層の厚みが、0.02μm以上0.3μm以下であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
- 前記基板と前記封止材料が可撓性を有するフィルム材料からなることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の有機エレクトロルミネッセンス素子。
