従来の充電式電気掃除機では、本体21を充電器22にセットすることで本体21内の電動送風機23に接続される回路を強制的に遮断して充電専用の回路に切り替えるものがある。本体21を充電器22にセットすると、充電端子22aが変形端子21aに接触すると同時に変形させ、固定端子21cから変形端子21aが離れる、というもので、この動作により電動送風機23側はスイッチ24の開閉にかかわらず、閉路となり、充電専用の回路となる。これは仮に前記のような回路構成を持たない充電式電気掃除機で、本体スイッチ24が入った状態で充電をしようとした場合、電動送風機23での消費電力が充電器22の充電能力を上回るために実質的には充電ができず、使おうと思ったときには完全に放電していて使えない、という問題が発生するためで、回路を切り替えることで本体スイッチ24の状態に関わりなく確実に充電できるようにするものである。
