本発明は、例えば車両用計器に採用される指針照明装置に関し、特に表示板の背後に指針照明用の導光板を備え、この導光板を通じて指針を照明する指針照明装置に関するものである。

従来より表示板上で回動する指針を透光材から形成して光導入部を設けると共に表示板の背後に導光板を配置し、この導光板より導いた照明光を表示板の光透過部分を通じて指針の光導入部に供給し、指針自体を光輝させる指針照明装置がよく知られている。

この種指針照明装置にあっては、指針の光導入部を含む回動中心領域の前方及びその周囲は通常、キャップ状の遮光性カバー(遮光性部材)にて覆われるので、この部分からの光洩れは抑えられるが、遮光性カバーと表示板との間から光洩れが発生することがある。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、前述のごとく遮光リングを用いて光り漏れを抑制する構造は、単に遮光リングと遮光性カバーとを所定の間隔を空けてラップさせるだけの構造であるため、導光体を通じて指針側に供給される照明光のうち、指針側から反射した照明光が遮光リングと遮光性カバーとの間を通ってダイレクトに表示板表面に漏れやすく、これがハレーションとなって視認され照明品質を低下させてしまうことがあり、この点で改良の余地が残されていた。特にこのような光漏れによるハレーションの発生は、表示板が白色系の色彩を有する場合に目立つため改良が望まれていた。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明による指針照明装置は、回中心領域に光導入部を有する指針本体とこの指針本体の回動中心領域を覆う遮光性部材とを備える指針と、この指針の背後に所定距離を隔てて配置され光導入部対応部分に透光部を有する表示板と、この表示板の背後に重合配置され表示板の透光部を通じて指針の光導入部に照明光を供給して指針を光輝させる光供給部を有する導光板と、指針と表示板の間に位置して表示板側に固定され表示板の透光部周縁を覆って遮光性部材側に延びる筒状の遮光壁部を有するカラー部材とで構成されている。遮光性部材には、カラー部材の遮光壁部に沿ってその内側に延びる遮光部が連続的に形成されており、この遮光部が遮光壁部の内側に存在することにより、特に指針側を通じ反射して表示板側に向かう照明光を低減もしくは減衰させ、これにより照明品質を高めることができる。
