ところで、従来より知られている海水魚等の生きた魚を水槽に入れて一般の家庭に於いては観賞用として楽しみ又は魚料理店に於いては店頭、客室等に設置した水槽に料理に使用する生きた魚を入れて営業上の広告用とすることは水槽の中での魚自体の排泄物や餌の残り等が腐敗して、猛毒のアンモニアとなって、そのために長く生存させることができない等の欠点があった。
