CDと略称)に係り、特に、一対の電極基板間に介設さ
れるシール材に関する。

が介設されており、両電極基板1,2はこのシール材3
を介して積層・固着されている。また、両電極基板1,
2の間でシール材3の内側の空間には液晶が封入されて
おり、このシール材3の外側に延びる下電極基板2の一
辺端が端子部4となつている。この端子部4には、上記
透明電極から延出されたITO等からなる電極端子5群
が形成されており、各電極端子5を外部端子と接続した
後、端子部4に補強用樹脂を塗布することで必要な接続
強度を確保する。すなわち、かかるLCDに外部接続用
のフレキシブル基板を固着する場合、図4の要部断面図
に示すように、端子部4の電極端子5上にAg等の金属
膜6を設け、この金属膜6とフレキシブル基板7の銅箔
パターン8との間にはんだ9を塗布して熱圧着した後、
端子部4上に紫外線硬化樹脂等の補強用樹脂10を塗布
して硬化させることにより、上下の電極基板1,2とフ
レキシブル基板7とを一体化する。なお、はんだ9を用
いる代わりに異方性導電シートを用いることもある。
2. 化させる要因となつていた。したがつて本発明の目的と
するところは、上記した従来技術の課題を解消し、端子
部に塗布される補強用樹脂の収縮が色むらを引き起こす
虞れがないLCDを提供することにある。

【実施例】以下、本発明の実施例を図1,2に基づいて
説明する。ここで、図1は本実施例に係るLCDの平面
図、図2はこのLCDの端子部にフレキシブル基板を固
着した状態を示す要部断面図であり、先に説明した図
3,4と対応する部分には同一符号を付し、重複する説
明は適宜省略する。図1に明らかなように、本実施例に
係るLCDは、上下一対の電極基板1,2間に介在し枠
形状に塗布されたシール材3のうち、端子部4側の一辺
を他の三辺よりも幅広にしてあり、具体的には、三辺を
構成する帯状部分3a,3b,3cの幅寸法が従来品と
同様の約1mmに設定してあるのに対し、端子部4側で
補強用樹脂10と対向する位置に塗布される帯状部分3
dの幅寸法が約2mmに設定してある。なお、本実施例
ではシール材3としてエポキシ樹脂を用いている。した
がつて、図2に示すように、かかるLCDの端子部4の
電極端子5とフレキシブル基板7の銅箔パターン8と
を、Ag等の金属膜6やはんだ9を介して接続した後、
紫外線硬化樹脂等の補強用樹脂10を端子部4上に塗布
して硬化(収縮)させる際に、上電極基板1の一辺端に
図中矢印Aで示す引つ張り力が作用しても、シール材3
の帯状部分3dにより幅広く位置規制されている上電極
基板1の当該個所には撓みが発生しにくくなつている。
換言するなら帯状部分3dが幅広なため、この帯状部分
3dを支点とする上電極基板1の撓みは無視できるほど
小さく、よつてシール材3の内側の有効表示領域におい
て両電極基板1,2間のギヤツプを一定に保つことがで
きる。

性シートを用いる場合や、外部端子として金属端子を用
いる場合にも、本発明が適用可能であることは言うまで
もない。

の収縮に起因する電極基板の撓みを抑制し、よつて有効
表示領域において一対の電極基板間のギヤツプを一定に
保つことができるので、表示品位を劣化させる要因とな
つていた色むらが回避でき、しかもコストアツプを伴わ
ないという優れた効果を奏する。
