Abstract
【解決手段】本発明の有機EL表示装置では、上部電極(共通電極)と下部電極(画素電極)の間に有機層を挟み込んだ構造の有機EL素子を含む複数のサブ画素15を行列状に並べて配置するとともに、複数のサブ画素15が行列状に並ぶ画素領域に、上部電極を下部電極と同層の補助配線22に電気的に接続するための補助配線コンタクト部24を形成し、行方向で隣り合う2個のサブ画素15を1つの組として、各組ごとに補助配線コンタクト部24を1個ずつ形成している。

Description
図1は本発明が適用される表示装置の主要部の構成を示す断面図である。ここでは、一例として、デバイスに流れる電流値に応じて発光輝度が変化する電流駆動型の電気光学素子、例えば有機EL素子(有機電界発光素子)を画素の発光素子として用いたアクティブマトリクス型の有機EL表示装置を例に挙げて説明する。
図3は有機EL表示装置の駆動回路の構成例を示す図である。有機EL表示装置1の駆動回路は、素子形成用基板3上に形成されている。さらに詳述すると、素子形成用基板3上には、画素領域を含む表示領域11とその周辺領域12とが設定されている。表示領域11には、複数の走査線13と複数の信号線14とが縦横に配線されている。走査線13と信号線14の各交差部にはサブ画素15が1つずつ設けられている。表示領域11内には複数(多数)のサブ画素15が行列状に並べて配置されている。素子形成用基板3上におけるサブ画素15の並び方向は、表示画面上で垂直方向に相当する行方向(図の上下方向)と、表示画面上で水平方向に相当する列方向(図の左右方向)に分けられる。各々のサブ画素15は、上述した有機EL素子2を含むものである。周辺領域12には、走査線13を走査駆動する走査線駆動回路16と、輝度情報に応じた映像信号(すなわち入力信号)を信号線14に供給する信号線駆動回路17とが配置されている。
図4は画素回路の構成例を示す図である。この画素回路18は、有機EL素子2に流れる電流を制御する回路である。ここでは一例として、駆動トランジスタTr1、書き込みトランジスタTr2及び保持容量Csを用いて、1つのサブ画素に対応する画素回路18が構成されている。この画素回路18では、走査線駆動回路16の駆動により、書き込みトランジスタTr2を介して信号線14から書き込まれた映像信号が保持容量Csに保持され、保持された信号量に応じた電流が駆動トランジスタTr1から有機EL素子2に供給され、この電流値に応じた輝度で有機EL素子2が発光する仕組みになっている。
図5は本発明の第1実施形態に係る有機EL表示装置のレイアウトを示す概略平面図である。また、図6は本発明の第1実施形態に有機EL表示装置の要部断面図である。
図7は本発明の第2実施形態に係る有機EL表示装置のレイアウトを示す概略平面図である。
図9は本発明の第3実施形態に係る有機EL表示装置のレイアウトを示す概略平面図である。
図10は本発明の第4実施形態に係る有機EL表示装置のレイアウトを示す概略平面図である。
図11は本発明の第5実施形態に係る有機EL表示装置のレイアウトを示す概略平面図である。

上記構成からなる有機EL表示装置1は、図19〜図23に示す様々な電子機器、例えば、デジタルカメラ、ノート型パーソナルコンピュータ、携帯電話等の携帯端末装置、ビデオカメラなど、電子機器に入力された映像信号、若しくは、電子機器内で生成した映像信号を、画像若しくは映像として表示するあらゆる分野の電子機器に適用可能である。
Claims (8)
- 上部電極と下部電極の間に表示機能層を挟み込んだ構造の電気光学素子を含む複数のサブ画素を行列状に並べて配置するとともに、
前記複数のサブ画素が行列状に並ぶ画素領域に、前記上部電極を補助配線に電気的に接続するための補助配線コンタクト部を形成し、
前記サブ画素の並び方向で隣り合うm個(mは2以上の整数)のサブ画素を1つの組として、各組ごとに前記補助配線コンタクト部をn個(nはmよりも小さい自然数)ずつ形成してなる
表示装置。 - 前記補助配線は前記下部電極と同層に形成されている
請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 前記サブ画素は、前記電気光学素子を画素回路に電気的に接続するための画素コンタクト部を含むものであって、
前記サブ画素の並び方向となる行方向及び列方向のうち、第1の方向で隣り合うサブ画素を前記m個1組として組み合わせるとともに、同一組に属する前記m個のサブ画素に対して、前記第1の方向で位置を揃えて前記画素コンタクト部を設けてなる
請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 前記サブ画素は、前記電気光学素子を画素回路に電気的に接続するための画素コンタクト部を含むものであって、
前記サブ画素の並び方向となる行方向及び列方向のうち、第1の方向で隣り合うサブ画素を2個1組として組み合わせるとともに、同一組に属する2個のサブ画素に対して、前記第1の方向で向かい合わせて前記画素コンタクト部を設けてなる
請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 前記サブ画素の並び方向となる行方向及び列方向のうち、第1の方向で隣り合うサブ画素をm個1組として組み合わせるとともに、
奇数列目と偶数列目で、サブ画素を組み合わせる位置が前記第1の方向で異なる
請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 前記補助配線は前記上部電極より低い抵抗の材料で形成されている
請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 上部電極と下部電極の間に表示機能層を挟み込んだ構造の電気光学素子を含む複数のサブ画素を行列状に並べて配置するとともに、
前記複数のサブ画素が行列状に並ぶ画素領域に、前記上部電極を前記下部電極と同層の補助配線に電気的に接続するための補助配線コンタクト部を形成し、
