Fifteen bovine prawns were bred in each group of the group to be administered (1% group) and the group to which the pellet food for prawns containing no propionic acid was administered (control group). During the breeding period, the water temperature is kept at 28-30 ° C., and the feed for each aquarium is adjusted to 1% by weight of shrimp body weight twice a day in the morning and evening each day (the daily dose is the body weight 2% by weight). Shrimp body weights were individually measured before the start of the study and 14 days after administration. The weight increase rate was calculated by the following formula.
Weight gain (%) = [(average body weight on day 14−average body weight before administration) / average body weight before administration] × 100
The results are shown in Table 1. In addition, although one death was seen in the 0.01% by weight group during the test period, no pathogenic factor was detected as a result of the bacterial and virus tests. Therefore, the cause of death was not due to virulence factors. As shown in Table 1, in the group to which the propionic acid-containing feed was administered, a weight increase rate of 1.8 to 4.3 times was obtained as compared with the control group.
