Abstract
【解決手段】 アクティブマトリクス基板を備えた表示パネルと、光検出部2と、閾値記憶部6と、比較部4と、照光手段を有する表示装置において、通常動作モード時には、前記光検出部2の出力と前記閾値記憶部6に格納されている閾値を前記比較部4にて比較し、この比較結果に基づいて前記照光手段のオン/オフ制御を行い、初期設定モード時には、前記光センサに基準となる光を照射しつつ、前記光検出部2の出力を前記閾値記憶部4に格納するようにする。

Claims (10)
- アクティブマトリクス基板を備えた表示パネルと、光センサを備えた光検出部と、閾値記憶部と、比較部と、照光手段を有する表示装置において、通常動作モード時には、前記光検出部の出力と前記閾値記憶部に格納されている閾値を前記比較部にて比較し、この比較結果に基づいて前記照光手段のオン/オフ制御を行い、初期設定モード時には、前記光センサに基準となる光を照射しつつ、前記光検出部の出力を前記閾値記憶部に格納するようにしたことを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記光検出部は、前記アクティブマトリクス基板の製造工程において同時に形成された光センサとしての薄膜電界効果トランジスタを備えていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記光検出部は、光センサとしての薄膜電界効果トランジスタを備えているとともに、前記薄膜電界効果トランジスタは前記表示パネルの外部に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記光検出部は、前記薄膜電界効果トランジスタのソース電極とドレイン電極との間に接続されるコンデンサ及び前記ソース電極と所定の定電圧源との間に接続されるスイッチ素子とを有し、前記コンデンサ及びスイッチ素子が前記表示パネルに集積化されており、前記薄膜電界効果トランジスタのゲート電極に逆バイアス電圧を印加しつつ前記スイッチをオフにしてから所定時間後のコンデンサの電圧を出力するものであることを特徴とする請求項2又は3に記載の表示装置。
- 前記光検出部は、前記薄膜電界効果トランジスタのソース電極とドレイン電極との間に接続されるコンデンサ及び前記ソース電極と所定の定電圧源との間に接続されるスイッチ素子とを有し、前記コンデンサが前記表示パネル内に設けられ、前記スイッチ素子が前記表示パネル外部に配置され、前記薄膜電界効果トランジスタのゲート電極に逆バイアス電圧を印加しつつ前記スイッチをオフにしてから所定時間後のコンデンサの電圧を出力するものであることを特徴とする請求項2又は3に記載の表示装置。
- 前記スイッチ素子は、前記アクティブマトリクス基板の周縁部に載置されたドライバIC内に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項5記載の表示装置。
- 前記光センサは完全遮光された光センサと遮光されない光センサとを備え、前記完全遮光された光センサの出力と前記遮光されない光センサの出力との差を前記光センサの出力としたことを特徴とする請求項1〜6のいずれかに記載の表示装置。
- 前記閾値記憶部及び比較部は、前記アクティブマトリクス基板の周縁部に載置されたドライバIC内に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1〜7のいずれかに記載の表示装置。
- 前記照光手段はバックライト又はサイドライトであり、前記表示装置は透過型又は半透過型液晶表示装置であることを特徴とする請求項1〜8のいずれかに記載の表示装置。
- 前記照光手段はフロントライトであり、前記表示装置は反射型液晶表示装置であることを特徴とする請求項1〜8いずれかに記載の液示装置。
