Abstract

1,268,249. Drive mechanism for endless chain conveyer. DEERE & CO. 21 Aug., 1969 [21 Aug., 1968], No. 41725/69. Heading B8A. [Also in Division E1] A drive mechanism for a pair of endless conveyer chains 43, 44, interjoined by flight elements 55 comprises a pair of sprockets 80, 81, spaced apart axially along a common axis of rotation, and driven by a speed reducing drive 60 mounted between the sprockets, and having a drive shaft coaxial with the axes of the sprockets. The drive 60 includes an axially extending casing 86 positioned between the sprockets with an opening at one end adjacent one of the sprockets 81. Outwardly of the latter is disposed a power source 113. A drive shaft 100 is journalled to rotate relative to the casing 86 and penetrates through the open end and the one sprocket 81. The shaft 100 has a part within the casing 86 and a part drivingly connected to the power source 113. A speedreducing drive 121-132 is disposed between the shaft 100 and the casing for effecting rotation of the sprockets in response to rotation of the shaft. The structure 60 is journalled on thrust bearings 108, 109, within a support member 104 with which the motor 113 is rigid. The drive shaft 100 is journalled at 103 within the member 104 and carries a sun wheel 121, this meshes with a planet wheel 123 carried by a planet carrier 125, rigid with a second sunwheel 128. This drives a ring gear 132 via a second planet carrier 129. The ring gear 132 is rigid with the casing 86. A flywheel 120 is carried by the shaft 100. The member 104 has a lug 105 which connects with a bifurcated member 107 (Fig. 3) carried by a cross-member 31 of the main frame. A bearing 138 at the other end of the structure 60 seats in a member 139 which has axial members 140-141 which are engageable in respective diametrically opposed radial slots 147 formed in a frame member 77 (Figs. 3 and 5) also carried by the crossmember 31. This arrangement provides a floating mounting for the conveyer chain drive sprockets that compensates for misalignment of the drive-shaft bearings. Adjustably mounted pulleys 47, 48 (Fig. 3), provide an intermediate support for the conveyer chains.
