Abstract

A coated cutting tool insert is provided to improve the cutting performance of the insert by forming a coating including a number of wear resistance layers which have been subject to a post surface treatment. A coated cutting tool insert comprises a body having generally polygonal or round shape with at least one rake face and at least one clearance face. The insert is partially coated with a coating. The coating includes alpha Al2O3 layer serving as an outer layer of the rake face. The alpha Al2O3 layer has a texture in the 104-direction with a texture coefficient TC(104)>1.5. The alpha Al2O3 layer has a texture in the 104-direction with a texture coefficient TC(104)>2. The alpha Al2O3 layer has a texture in the 104-direction with a texture coefficient TC(104)>2.5. The alpha Al2O3 layer has a texture in the 012-direction with a texture coefficient TC(012)>1.3, preferably TC(012)>1.5. The alpha Al2O3 layer has a texture in the 110-direction with a texture coefficient TC(110)>1.5.
