BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Many kinds of window assemblies may be mounted in a wall, such as sliding or hinged windows. Shutters or Venetian blinds may be added to the window assembly. However, it is generally very cumbersome and laborious to remove the window assembly for maintenance or for exchanging parts, such as window panes.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention seeks to provide a novel access assembly (e.g., window or door assembly) that may pivot about an axis for easy installation and maintenance. The window or door assembly may be assembled with a shutter assembly, as is described further in detail hereinbelow.
There is thus provided in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention a pivoting access assembly comprising a building structure formed with an access opening on a first surface thereof, and an access frame comprising a pivoting member that pivots about a pivot, wherein the access frame is arranged to be received in the access opening and to be swung out of the access opening by pivoting about the pivot.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention a recess is formed in a second surface of the building structure, and a shutter assembly is secured to the access frame, wherein the shutter assembly is arranged to be received in the recess and to be swung out of the recess by pivoting the access frame about the pivot.
Further in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention the shutter assembly is secured to the access frame by brackets such that a portion of the shutter assembly is positioned above an upper edge of the access frame when the shutter assembly is received in the recess.
Still further in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention the shutter assembly comprises a roller shutter assembly and the portion of the shutter assembly comprises at least a portion of a shutter roll of the roller shutter assembly.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention the pivot comprises a mounting bar secured to the building structure.

Further in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention a blocking element is mounted on the access frame arranged to block wind from blowing in through openings and spaces around the shutter assembly BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The present invention will be understood and appreciated more fully from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a simplified pictorial illustration of a pivoting window assembly, constructed and operative in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, shown assembled with a shutter assembly; Figs. 2 and 3 are simplified, partially sectional illustrations of an upper portion of the pivoting window assembly of Fig. 1, in respective closed and open positions; Fig. 4 is a simplified, partially sectional illustration of a lower portion of the pivoting window assembly of Fig. 1, comprising a sealing device constructed and operative in accordance with an embodiment of the invention; Fig. 5 is a simplified, partially sectional illustration of a lower portion of the pivoting window assembly of Fig. 1, comprising a sealing device constructed and operative in accordance with another embodiment of the invention; and Fig. 6 is a simplified pictorial illustration of a pivoting door assembly, constructed and operative in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, shown assembled with a shutter assembly.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT Reference is now made to Figs. 1-3, which illustrate a pivoting window assembly 10, constructed and operative in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. It is noted that the window assembly 10 is one example of an access assembly that may be constructed in accordance with the invention, but the invention is also applicable for other access apparatus, such as but not limited to a door, an embodiment of which is described hereinbelow with reference to Fig. 6. Throughout the specification and claims, the term "access" is defined to encompass both a window and a door, and refers, without limitation, to both the window and door embodiments described herein.
Pivoting window assembly 10 may be mounted in a building structure 12, such as but not limited to, concrete, brick or wood (Figs. 2 and 3), formed with a window opening 14 on a first surface 16 thereof and a recess 18 formed in a second surface 20 thereof. may comprise a hook element that hooks over and may swing around the mounting bar. It is noted that pivoting member 24 may be on an upper surface of main window frame 23 for vertical hanging, or on a side surface for side hanging, for example.
A window frame 22 may be fitted in main window frame 23. Any kind of window pane 21 may be set in window frame 22. Window frame 22 may slide or pivot relative to main window frame 23.
A shutter assembly 30 may be secured to main window frame 23. For example, shutter assembly 30 may be secured to main window frame 23 by brackets 32 such that a portion of shutter assembly 30 is positioned above an upper edge 34 of main window frame 23 when shutter assembly 30 is received in recess 18, as seen in Fig. 2.
Accordingly, shutter assembly 30 is arranged to be received in recess 18 (Fig. 2) and to be swung out of recess 18 by pivoting main window frame 23 about pivot 26 (Fig. 3).
Installation of main window frame 23 and shutter assembly 30 into the window opening 14 and recess 18 is rapid and easy. Main window frame 23, together with shutter assembly 30, may be simply hung on pivot 26 by means of pivoting member 24. As shown in Fig. 3, main window frame 23 may be swung into the window opening 14 (as indicated by an arrow 28) by pivoting about pivot 26, to the position shown in Fig. 2.
Simultaneously, shutter assembly 30 is swung into recess 18. For maintenance, main window frame 23 and shutter assembly 30 may be swung out of the window opening 14 and recess 18 about pivot 26 in the direction opposite to arrow 28. This may provide access to the parts of shutter assembly 30 for maintenance and exchange of parts, if needed.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, shutter assembly 30 may comprise a roller shutter assembly with a shutter roll 36 rotatably mounted on an upper portion of brackets 32. A blocking element 38 may be mounted on main window frame 23, which, for example, blocks wind from blowing in through the openings and spaces around the shutter assembly 30 and reaching the interior of the room where the pivoting window assembly 10 is installed.
Main window frame 23 may be sealed with respect to building structure 12 with a sealing compound 37 (Fig. 2), such as but not limited to, caulking material. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 3, window assembly 10 may be provided with various seals for sealing main window frame 23 with respect to building structure 12, without necessarily needing any caulking material. For example, an elastomeric seal 37' may be mounted on main window frame 23, which sealingly abuts against a bracket 39 in the closed orientation of Fig. 2. Bracket 39 may be secured to building structure 12 near pivot 26 (Fig. 2).
Reference is now made to Figs. 4 and 5. A lower portion of main window frame 23 may be sealed with respect to building structure 12, without necessarily needing any caulking material, by means of an adjustable sealing device 40. In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention shown in Fig. 4, adjustable sealing device 40 may comprise one or more threaded fasteners 42, such as but not limited to, Allen or pan-head screws, arranged to press against a flange 44 on main window frame 23. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, flange 44 extends from main window frame 23. A seal (elastomeric seal or caulking material) 47 may be mounted on main window frame 23, which sealingly abuts against a bracket 49 in the closed orientation of Fig. 2. Bracket 49 may be secured to building structure 12 at a lower portion of window opening 14.
In the embodiment of Fig. 5, a flange 46 is provided that partially may pivot about a pivot 48, but is constrained to a limit of rotation by a stop member 50 extending from main window frame 23. In this embodiment, adjustable sealing device 40 may comprise one or more threaded fasteners 52, such as but not limited to, Allen or pan-head screws, arranged to press against flange 46 until flange 46 is stopped by stop member 50. In this manner, main window frame 23 is pressed in the direction of bracket 49 so that seal 47 seals the widow assembly.
Reference is now made to Fig. 6, which illustrates a pivoting door assembly, constructed and operative in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The pivoting door assembly is preferably constructed similar to the pivoting window assembly 10 described hereinabove, except that it comprises a door frame (also referred to as an "access frame") 101 instead of the main window frame 23 described hereinabove. The principles of construction and operation are as described for window assembly 10, the details of which are omitted here for the sake of brevity. Briefly, the door assembly may be mounted in a building structure formed with a door opening and a recess. The door frame 101 may comprise a pivoting member (like pivoting member 24 above) that pivots about a pivot (like pivot 26 above).
A shutter assembly 103 may be secured to door frame 101, such as by means of brackets 102. Brackets 102 may be connected to door frame 101 by means of an adjustable fastener 105, such that brackets 102, together with shutter assembly 103, may slide relative to door frame 101 as indicated by arrow 104.
Installation of the door assembly is basically as described for window assembly 10, wherein the door frame 101, together with shutter assembly 103, may be simply hung on the pivot by means of the pivoting member.
It will be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the present invention is not limited by what has been particularly shown and described hereinabove. Rather the scope of the present invention includes both combinations and subcombinations of the features described hereinabove as well as modifications and variations thereof which would occur to a person of skill in the art upon reading the foregoing description and which are not in the prior art. 6 154394/3
