Abstract
Cycloaliphatic primary amines are prepared by passing through a monocyclic primary arylamine/hydrogenation catalyst mixture at or above the b.p. of the product but below that of the starting material, a gas at atmospheric pressure comprising elemental hydrogen, the amine product being removed as fast as it is formed, and condensing and recovering the amine product from the gas leaving the reaction mixture. The preparation of cyclohexylamine is exemplified, but starting materials also mentioned are o, m- and p-toluidines, xylidenes, amindines and phenetidines; mesidine, pseudocumidine, benzidine, o-tolidine, 4-aminodiphenylmethane and 4,41-diaminodiphenylmethane (the latter four compounds are "monocyclic" as defined in the Specification).
