Abstract
The invention comprises p-isobutyldihydrocinnamic aldehyde (including mixtures of o-and pcontaining at least 60% p-) and a process for producing it by reacting isobutylbenzene with acroleic (or its diacylate) in presence of TiCl4; when the diacylate is used, the product is hydrolysed to liberate free aldehyde. Pure p-isomer is separated from the o-/p-mixture by means of the sodium bisulphite derivative and characterized as its semicarbazone.ALSO:Perfume and cosmetic compositions comprise p-isobutyldihydrocinnamic aldehyde. Examples describe lilac, wistaria and sweet pea compositions, an aerosol and a talcum powder.
